Dr. Tatiana Leal explaining the transition from laser lipolysis to Scizer

If you landed on this article looking for laser lipolysis at our clinic, you deserve a direct answer: we no longer offer that procedure. After 18 years applying different fat-reduction technologies, I made the decision to stop performing laser lipolysis and focus the protocol on Scizer, a device that today gives me better results with lower risk for the vast majority of my patients.

This article explains why, what actually changes for you if you were considering laser lipolysis, and what you can expect from the alternative.

Why I stopped offering laser lipolysis

Laser lipolysis was, for years, a procedure I performed with good results: certified German technology, 0.5 cm micro-incisions, local anesthesia, and a relatively fast 48-72 hour recovery. It wasn’t a bad technology —it still isn’t, at clinics that perform it well— but by systematically comparing its results with Scizer’s in my own patients, I found three differences that made me change the protocol:

No incisions or anesthesia. Laser lipolysis requires introducing a fiber optic under the skin through a micro-incision, with local anesthesia. Although the risk is low when performed by a certified physician, it remains an invasive procedure with associated risks: minimal bleeding, possible infection, a tiny scar. Scizer works entirely from outside the skin: no needles, no incisions, no anesthesia.

Skin tightening included in the same device. Scizer combines macro-focused ultrasound (which destroys fat cells) with multipolar radiofrequency (which stimulates collagen and tightens skin) in a single session. Laser lipolysis also generates some thermal collagen stimulation, but without the dedicated radiofrequency power Scizer has. For patients with some laxity in addition to localized fat —the most common profile in consultations after age 30— this makes a visible difference in the final result.

Zero downtime. With laser lipolysis, the 48-72 hour recovery and 15 days of compression garment use were a normal part of the process. With Scizer, my patients return to their routine the same day, with no mandatory garment or significant restrictions.

What this means if you were looking for laser lipolysis

If your goal was reducing localized fat in the abdomen, flanks, arms, or back that doesn’t respond to exercise, that goal is still achievable —just with a different technology. Scizer treats the exact same areas and addresses the same need: stubborn localized fat in people near their ideal weight, not a general weight-loss treatment.

If you already had an assessment scheduled or completed for laser lipolysis, message us to reschedule it with Scizer at no extra cost. We’ll evaluate your specific case —including whether there’s any scenario where another alternative makes more sense— with the same diagnostic honesty I apply to any procedure.

The one honest caveat

It wouldn’t be fair to say Scizer replaces 100% of laser lipolysis cases. The laser fiber, working beneath the skin, kept a slight edge for very deep, tightly localized fat deposits in small specific areas where the fiber’s precision was useful. These are uncommon cases in my practice, but if yours falls into that profile, I’ll tell you directly during your assessment, and we’ll discuss which alternative makes the most sense —including surgical procedures if the fat volume warrants it.

Compare the two technologies

If you want to see the full technical comparison —price, anesthesia, recovery, skin tightening— you’ll find it on the Scizer page and in our article Scizer vs. cryolipolysis, where we also compare it against other non-surgical alternatives.

Frequently asked questions

Why did you stop offering laser lipolysis?

After evaluating results from hundreds of cases with both technologies, we found that Scizer offers a more favorable profile for most patients: the same localized fat reduction goal, no incisions, no anesthesia, and the added benefit of radiofrequency skin tightening in the same device. We decided to focus our protocol on the technology that delivers better results with lower risk.

What if I had already been recommended laser lipolysis?

If you received a prior assessment for laser lipolysis, we invite you to book a new consultation at no extra cost. We'll evaluate your case with Scizer and explain the specific differences for your situation —areas, expectations, and budget— transparently.

Does Scizer give the same results as laser lipolysis?

In most cases of superficial localized fat, yes, with the added benefit of skin tightening. Laser lipolysis kept a slight edge for very deep, isolated deposits because the fiber could work with precision beneath the skin; for those specific cases we evaluate other alternatives during your consultation.

Will you offer laser lipolysis again in the future?

It's not ruled out, but it's not our priority while Scizer keeps delivering the results we're documenting. If that changes, we'll communicate it with the same transparency.
